Choose Your Menus and Fast Menu

Decides how much of the program you actually see. Nothing is deleted when you switch a section off, so it comes straight back the moment you need it.

What this covers

Deciding how much of the program you actually see. Three separate lists, under User Settings → Custom Labels & Views → Custom Views.

Main Menu

Every section of the program with a switch beside it. Turn off what you do not use and the left menu gets shorter. If you never run Campaigns, that whole branch can go.

Tabs, which matter more

This is the row across the top of every Client, and it is the list people forget. Children, Employment, Fin Plan, Web Activity, Video. Every tab you never fill in is distance between you and the field you actually wanted.

Turning half of them off is the single biggest speed change available in the settings, and it costs nothing.

Fast Menu

The handful of screens you open every day, pinned one click away. Most people need four or five. Choosing twelve defeats the point.

Tips

Nothing is deleted. Switching a section off hides it. Switching it back on takes the same second, so there is no risk in being ruthless.

Do the tabs, not just the menu. The menu is what you notice; the tabs are what slow you down.

Revisit it after a month. You will know by then what you actually opened.

Common questions

Does hiding a section delete the data in it?

No. Nothing is removed. The records stay exactly as they are and reappear the moment you switch the section back on.

Do my sub-users get the same menu?

No. Each sub-user has their own permissions and their own Fast Menu, set on their record.

I hid something and now I cannot find the setting.

User Settings is never hidden, so Custom Views is always reachable from there.

A program that does everything shows you everything, and most of it is not yours. This is everything switched on. It is a lot, and if you are one person doing the books it is mostly noise. User Settings, Custom Labels and Views, Custom Views. Main Menu is the top level. Every section of the program, with a switch.

Turn off what you do not use. The menu gets shorter, and what is left is what you actually do. Tabs are separate, and they are the ones worth doing. This is the row across the top of every Client. Children, Employment, Fin Plan, Web Activity. If you never fill them in, they are just distance between you and the field you wanted.

Then the Fast Menu, which is the short list you keep coming back to. Pick the handful of screens you open every day and they sit one click away. Nothing is deleted. Everything you switch off is still there, and switching it back on takes the same second it took to hide it. So be ruthless. You can always change your mind, and a shorter menu is a faster one.
