Add Payment on the Invoice row opens with the Invoice chosen and the full amount owing filled in. Type a smaller figure if they only paid part of it.

An Invoice is only half of it. This is the half where you are actually paid. Client Invoice History. Every Invoice, what it was for, and whether the money has arrived. There are a few ways to record a payment. The quickest is the Add Payment button, right there on the row.
The form opens with the Invoice already chosen.
Then how they paid. Cheque, cash, Interac, eTransfer, Paypal, Helcim or other. And one thing to know before you touch this. If you use an integrated payment system, you do not choose anything here. That payment posts itself.
The amount fills in as the full amount owing. If they only paid a part of it, type what they actually paid. The rest stays outstanding, and the Invoice stays open.
Then the part that saves you a job. The Journal Entry is already written. Bank debited, Accounts Receivable cleared, balanced, and it posts to your books the moment you save. You never enter it twice.
Beside it, the card buttons. Take Credit Card Payment is greyed out here because Helcim is not connected on this account. Once it is, you can take a card payment from the Client on this screen. And if the Client pays through the link on their own Invoice instead, the payment is taken and your books are updated at that moment. Nothing for you to record.
Then, whenever you want to know where you stand. By date range, showing what was paid, when, and what is still outstanding. Which is how you collect your noodle money.
